VENEZUELAN ASSOCIATION IN MISSOURI

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

2010 STARTING ON April 1, 2010

GENERAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

To qualify for an AVMO scholarship, applicants must: 

1.       Have graduated High School with a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 Grading Scale.

2.       Be of Hispanic heritage: The applicant or one parent, the Grandparents or any of them have to be born in a Hispanic Country.

3.       Be able to clearly demonstrate financial needs, residency and ethnicity.

4.       Be currently enrolled, pursuing or planning to enroll as a full time student in the state of Missouri.

5.       Be an accepted or enrolled student at an accredited College as a High school senior or College freshmen, sophomore, or junior or senior in 2010.

6.       Be an accepted or enrolled student at an accredited University for the year 2010, and plan to study for a bachelor’s degree. Venezuelan Association in Missouri Scholarship is awarded on the basis of merit and financial need to undergraduate students with an outstanding academic record who demonstrate strong character and determination to earn their college degree.

7.       Be resident of the Missouri State, understanding as resident:

“Student who has permanent resident in the state of Missouri and has been living in the state for a continuous ninety days or more”.

8.       Be a U.S Citizen, legal permanent resident or lawfully registered student.

9.       Excludes students enrolled exclusively in a full-time ESL program.

GENERAL APPLICATION GUIDELINES

 

1.       Students are required to submit a current application in order to be considered for a scholarship award for the year 2010. A previous-year scholarship application is ineligible for consideration in the current academic year.

2.       Applicants MUST have to submit:

  • A completed application, including essays in original
  • Official transcript(s)
  • Enrollment Verification Form
  • Financial Information indicated in the Application Form
  • Grade Point Average (GPA)
  • Certification Form (High School Seniors)

3.       Official transcripts or grade reports may be in separate and sealed envelopes and enclose in the application package.

4.       High school students and those who are first semester college freshmen at the time the application is submitted MUST provide a complete transcript of their high school grades.

5.       Transfer students whose transfer record is not shown on the transcript submitted MUST obtain and submit a transcript form the last college attended.

6.       College freshmen will also need a high school transcript along with their college transcript.

7.       Recommendation letters MUST be in sealed enveloped and enclosed in the application package.

8.       Only two essays will be accepted per applicant.

9.       All specified application components and required information MUST BE included; incomplete applications may be disqualified.

10.   Scholarship recipients, who deliberately provide false information, drop out from or are dismissed by the College or University will not be able to apply for any scholarship from the Venezuelan Association in Missouri.

11.   Application sent by e-mail is not accepted.

12.   All submitted application must indicate “SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM 2010”.

13.   The Venezuelan Association in Missouri board members, their spouses or children may NOT APPLY.

14.   Students MUST read the Terms and Conditions established by the Venezuelan Association in Missouri.

15.   It is the responsibility of the applicant to submit the application along with ALL supporting documentation in ONE PACKAGE by the deadline of July 1, 2010.

The awards will be presented at the place and date that will be announced by the Venezuelan Association in Missouri.

The awards will be communicated to the students and published on the web site not later than July 15, 2010

LATE, INCOMPLETE AND INELIGIBLE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.

AVMO SELECTION PROCESS

Selection process:

Successful candidates are selected on the basis of merit, outstanding academic performance and financial need.

The members of the Venezuelan Association in Missouri board offered their candidacy to be members of the scholarship committee. The scholarship committee established and defines criteria of selection, and other guidelines for the scholarship. The scholarship committee chooses three members of St. Louis community. The people selected approve their selection to be the scholarship Evaluation Council.

Those criteria, amount to award, etc. are defined and approved by the board.

The Venezuelan Association in Missouri Board and the members of the Venezuelan Association in Missouri can not be members of the Scholarship Evaluation Council.

The Scholarship Program Committee may get the deadline established by the Venezuelan Association in Missouri. Their decisions are final.

The scholarship Program Committee is responsible for all process until the scholarship be announced and will be a link between the Scholarship Evaluation Council and third parts.

If there is a conflict of interest caused by a relationship between an applicant and a member of the evaluation council, this scholarship evaluation council member will be replaced by another person who will be choose by the Scholarship Committee.

The scholarship Evaluation Council, based in the Venezuelan Association in Missouri criteria, selects the students to be awarded.

The student awarded will receive a written notification from the Venezuelan Association in Missouri.  It will indicate the amount and requirements for the disbursement of money.  All awards will be made payable to the educational institution.

The student(s) awarded will receive a certificate at the event and place established by the Venezuelan Association in Missouri. The student will receive the notification about the event two weeks prior to the ceremony.
